Is 4x6 a Standard Postcard Size?

 When it comes to postcard size, 4" x 6" is the most common standard. This fits into the guidelines for the U.S. Post Office and the special postcard postage rate. However, a few makers and printing services use slightly different sizes. While many people prefer boxier designs, others might want a larger format to maximize the number of postcards printed on a sheet. Regardless of the reasons, 4x6 is a standard postcard size that is both practical and inexpensive.

While this standard postcard size is ideal for marketing purposes, some people opt for different sizes for personal or business cards. A popular choice for many businesses is a 4" x 6" marketing card. Unlike the smaller, trifold-style postcards, these can be folded to fit in a letter envelope. The U.S. Postal Service also charges lower rates for smaller postcards when mailed via first-class mail.

  When sending a postcard, the USPS recommends that you use a rectangular, 0.007-inch-thick envelope. The envelope must be three-1/2 inches high by five inches wide and no larger than six-1/2 inches long by one-fourth of an inch thick. The maximum dimensions for 5x7 postcards are three-1/2 inches high by five inches by one-fourth of an inch, and the maximum weight of the mailpiece is two ounces.
